The House of Representatives has called on the federal government to immediately arrest and prosecute the gunmen who ambushed and killed five police officers on Saturday, November 29, 2025, in Sabon Sara, Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency of Bauchi State.
The slain officers were identified as DSP Ahmad Muhammad, ASP Mustapha Muhammad, Inspector Amarhel Yunusa, Inspector Idris Ahmed, and Corporal Isah Muazu. Two others, Inspector Isah Musa and Inspector Yusuf Gambo sustained injuries during the attack, which occurred amid a security operation in the community.
Moving the motion on the floor of the House, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro, representing Darazo/Ganjuwa federal constituency, said the officers were attacked while performing lawful duties.
He revealed that intelligence reports linked the incident to an armed group resisting the arrest of the dethroned hamlet head of Sabon Sara, whose activities have continued to threaten peace and stability in the area.
Soro commended Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for his administration’s effective security management, noting that the state has remained largely free from banditry and other non-state actors for the past six years, and for responding swiftly to the Sabon Sara incident.
He raised concerns over the condition of the affected families, warning that the dependents of the slain and injured officers now face emotional and economic hardship. "Demonstrating institutional support for officers killed or injured in the line of duty is essential for sustaining the morale and operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force," he said.
Following a voice vote, the House urged the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Police Trust Fund, and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to provide immediate palliatives and welfare support to the families. This includes financial assistance and educational support for the children of the deceased officers.
Lawmakers also called on the Inspector-General of Police to expedite the payment of statutory entitlements, insurance benefits, and ensure comprehensive medical care for the injured personnel.
The Committee on National Security and Police Affairs was mandated to liaise with relevant security agencies to ensure compliance.
The killing of security personnel in northern Nigeria has become increasingly frequent in recent years, fueled by the proliferation of armed groups, rural banditry, communal clashes, and insurgency-driven violence.
