The Bauchi state government has allocated 15.03 percent of the proposed N878,152,907,900 of 2026 budget to the health sector, while the education sector received 15.0 percent.
The State Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, Hon. Amina Katagum, disclosed this while presenting a breakdown of the 2026 budget proposal.
According to her, the government earmarked N132,014,348,136.61 to heath sector, while the education sector specifically received N131,713,005,133.39.
She further explained the sectoral allocations as with administration sector N120,003,341,657.41 (13.7%); economic sector got 435,515,685,548.40 (49.6%); Law and Justice received N12,202,071,431.59 j1.4%); while social Sector with N310,431,809,262.60 (35.4%).
Katagum said the allocation reflects the government's emphasis on strengthening healthcare delivery and improving educational services in the state.
Bauchi state Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, presented a total sum of N878, 152, 907, 900 as proposed 2026 budget to the members of state house of assembly.
Presenting the budget proposal to the members of State House of Assembly in Bauchi Thursday, held at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Bauchi gave a recurrent expenditure of N310.686,691,269.44 (35%), Capital expenditure of N567.466,216,630.56 (65%).
Governor Bala told the Legislative Assembly that the government proposed a recurrent revenue of N450, 669, 613, 893.92k, which comprised (Statuary allocation of N89,357,892,004.35; value added tax N100,000,000,000.00; Internal revenue N64,609,438,575.62; while other FAAC revenue N196,702,313.95).
Accorching to the governor, the capital receipts inclusive of opening balance is N427,484,294,006.08, which made up of opening balance N11,985,019,995.65; Aids and Grants N100,349,710,000.00; federal government borrowing plan is N266,148,564,010.43 while other capital receipts is N49,000,000,000.00.
"The recurrent expenditure of N310, 686, 691, 269. 44k, composed of Personnel N106, 443, 267, 088.10k; and Overhead N204, 943, 424, 904. 74k."
The Governor, who assured of justice and equity in the distribution of projects and programmes, urged the House members to critically look at the proposals and speedy passage of the appropriation bill.
Tagged the 'Budget of Hope and Consultation', Governor Mohammed explained that the budget was designed to consolidate the administration's ongoing reforms while addressing emerging economic challenges at both state and national levels.
He noted that the extensive engagements with communities, stakeholders, and policy experts ensured that the budget reflects the genuine needs and aspirations of the people.
Describing the budget as a roadmap for sustainable development, the governor highlighted major allocations to education, healthcare, agriculture, rural infrastructure, water supply, and youth empowerment, sectors he identified as central to improving livelihoods across the state.
He further reaffirmed his administration's dedication to completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones that will enhance productivity, create employment, and strengthen local economies.
Responding, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman recalled the mutual working relationship between the Legislature and Executive in the past six years as cordial guided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
He said, "For the past six years in Bauchi state, the mutual working relationship between the Legislature and Executive, guided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria remains the bedrock of transparent governance, prudent management of resources and meaningful development for our dear state."
Members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly commended the clarity and structure of the presentation, pledging a timely and thorough legislative review of the budget.
