The Bauchi state government has inaugurated a Central Working Committee (CWC) to oversee the establishment of the Mining Institute, Alkaleri, Bauchi State (MIABAS).
The inauguration ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Ministry of Natural Resources Development headquarters, featured remarks from the Commissioner of the Ministry, Hon. Mohammed Maiwada Bello.
He commended the leadership of Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, describing the proposed institute as a strategic initiative designed to enhance technical capacity, research, and professional training within the mining sector.
Bello highlighted that MIABAS will play a pivotal role in unlocking Bauchi State's abundant mineral resources by equipping citizens with essential skills in exploration, extraction, processing, value addition, and environmental management.
He emphasised that the institute will address critical knowledge gaps, strengthen local content, and create new opportunities for youth empowerment, employment, and sustainable development across the mining value chain.
The newly inaugurated committee, tasked with developing a comprehensive framework for MIABAS within three months, is composed of experienced professionals from key ministries, institutions, and industry organizations.
Reaffirming the State's commitment to the project, the Commissioner urged the committee to operate with professionalism and dedication, aiming to establish a world-class center for mining education and innovation that will serve both national and international needs.
He also prayed for Allah’s guidance for the committee as it commences its assignment, expressing confidence that MIABAS will become a landmark institution in Bauchi State's economic diversification and mineral development agenda.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Ibrahim Sulaiman Mato, described the inauguration as a critical step toward realizing Bauchi State's mineral potential. He praised the committee members for their expertise and expressed optimism that they would diligently achieve the institute’s objectives.
During the vote of thanks, Bello Sarki Jadori, Chairman of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Mines, assured that the committee would justify the confidence placed in them and extended gratitude to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and Commissioner Mohammed Maiwada Bello for entrusting them with this important responsibility.

The committee, chaired by the Hon. Commissioner of Natural Resources Development, comprises other members Hon. Bello S. Jadori (BAHA Committee on Mines); Alh. Usman, Ministry of Justice; Shehu Adamu Gilas, Ministry of Finance & Economic Development; Mohammed Alhassan Ibrahim, Ministry of Housing & Environment and Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Maigari, Dept. of Applied Geology, ATBU Bauchi.

Rukayya Mohammed of the Ministry of Natural Resources Development will serve as Secretary of the committee.
