G.D.S.S. Zaria Class of 1986 Alumni Association Holds 40th Anniversary Reunion in Grand Style

The Day Secondary School (G.D.S.S.) Zaria Class of 1986 Alumni Association held a grand reunion on Saturday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their graduation.

The event took place at the Centre of Experience located within the campus of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

According to our correspondent, the reunion was organized to strengthen friendship and unity among the alumni, while also discussing ways to contribute to the development of their alma mater and support the advancement of education.

The gathering attracted alumni from different parts of Nigeria as well as those who travelled from abroad.

Several papers were presented during the event, highlighting the importance of unity, mutual support, and contributing to the growth of both the association and the school.

One of the keynote speakers was Professor Suleiman Balarabe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria.

In his address, he urged the alumni, particularly those holding senior positions in government and the business community, to increase their support for educational development.

He also encouraged them to remain compassionate and committed to serving society, stressing that giving back to their former school is a way of expressing gratitude to God for the successes they have achieved in life.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Adamu Ahmed, who was represented by the Director of the Institute of Education, Professor Abubakar Jumare, conveyed the Vice-Chancellor's goodwill message.

He urged the association to continue placing a high premium on education, describing it as the foundation of societal development.

He also wished the association and all participants a successful and rewarding reunion.
Also speaking, Professor Ahmed Muhammad Bakori, Commissioner for Agriculture of Katsina State and an alumnus of the school, expressed his delight at reuniting with his former classmates after many years. He pledged that, by the grace of God, they would continue supporting the development of the school.

Similarly, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Muhammad Cokali, a Commissioner with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Civil Service Commission representing the North-West geopolitical zone, commended the association and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting both the school and the association's activities.

In his address, Rear Admiral Muhammad Miftah Abdullahi (Rtd) said that every success he has achieved in life was rooted in the education he received at D.S.S. Zaria. He pledged to continue contributing to the growth and development of both the school and the alumni association.

Representing the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Engineer Balarabe Ibrahim Umsa, the Sarkin Ayyukan Zazzau, delivered the goodwill message of His Royal Highness Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.

In the message, the Emir commended the alumni for their commitment and assured them of the Emirate's full support.

The Chairman of the Reunion Planning Committee, Alhaji Aliyu A. Bamalli, who is also the Sarkin Noman Zazzau, said organizing the reunion came with several challenges before it was successfully held.

He thanked Almighty God for the success of the event and appreciated all alumni who attended, as well as those who were unable to be present.

At the end of the reunion, the association honoured some of its distinguished members with awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions.

Among the recipients were Rear Admiral Muhammad Miftah Abdullahi (Rtd), Professor Ahmed Muhammad Bakori, Professor Aliyu Musa, Alhaji Aliyu A. Bamalli, the Sarkin Noman Zazzau, and several other members.

While closing the event, Hon. Adamu Bello (Ability), Chairman of the association's Publicity Committee, thanked all participants for attending and prayed for their safe return to their respective destinations.
