The National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the judgment reportedly delivered by the Oyo State High Court as inconsequential, dismissing it as a mere academic exercise.
Reacting to the ruling on Friday, the National Publicity Secretary of the NCWC, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, stated that the court in question had earlier granted an interim order permitting Mr. Damagum and his associates to proceed with their convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, despite two valid Federal High Court judgments.
He said, “For the avoidance of doubt, the judgment does not bind the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as INEC was neither joined nor represented as a party in the suit.
“INEC had challenged the jurisdiction of the Oyo State High Court. The court later upheld the objection and struck out INEC’s name from the case.
“A judgment that does not bind INEC is of no consequence whatsoever regarding the issues at stake.”
According to him, the ruling has no legal effect on the conduct, monitoring, or recognition of any convention purportedly held on November 15 and 16, 2026.
He further reiterated that INEC had already complied with two subsisting judgments of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which restrained the Commission from attending, monitoring, or recognizing the outcome of the said convention.
Mohammed also noted that INEC complied with the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which nullified the convention and restrained Kabiru Turaki and his associates from parading themselves as leaders of the party.
The NCWC assured loyal party members and the general public that preparations for the conduct of congresses and the National Convention are at an advanced stage.
He emphasized that the party remains committed to legality, due process, the rule of law, and the strengthening of internal democracy.
