The Commander gave important advice to the new 89th RRI training intake during the Beating of the Retreat ceremony held in honor of the recruits at the Depot Nigerian Army Parade Ground, where he served as the special guest of honor.
The Commander stated that the recruits must understand that training in the Nigerian Army is a continuous process that will last throughout their entire military career.
According to him, this event marks the end of all the training activities planned for this intake, except for the official Passing Out Parade scheduled for 13 December 2025. Therefore, you must understand that Depot Nigerian Army Zaria has given you the basic military training, which is the foundation of your career.
“What I witnessed today shows that all training companies competed strongly in the various competitions organized to improve their skills at this institution.
“This is evident from the number of awards displayed before the deserving companies.”
General Wase congratulated all the training companies and expressed gratitude to those who won special awards on this important day.
For those who did not win any awards, he encouraged them by saying they will have many opportunities to excel in their military careers.
The Commander emphasized that Beating of the Retreat is of great significance in the training process of every intake that passes through this prestigious institution.
Therefore, this moment serves as a time to reflect on progress, appreciate the recruits and companies that performed excellently during training, and recognize the staff who worked tirelessly to achieve this success.
The special guest also congratulated the Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army Zaria, Major General AB Mohammed, and all his staff, instructors, and training leaders for the progress recorded.
In his welcome address, the Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmadu Bello Muhammad, stated that more than 3,500 recruits started the rigorous training, and 3,439 recruits are set to complete their training in two days.
He noted that training this intake stretched the institution’s human and material resources beyond expectations.
The Commandant expressed profound gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for his unwavering support throughout the training period.
He also thanked the NDA, WOA, AFCSC, 1 Division, and NASI for their cooperation in conducting joint field training.
This collaboration added quality to the recruits' training and allowed them to interact with soldiers they may work with in the field after passing out.
“To all our instructors, with special respect to the Chief of Army Staff, the Commandant of the Training School, the Head of the Training Wing, and all the staff of Depot NA Zaria, I extend great appreciation for this remarkable achievement.”
The event was held successfully, and it ended peacefully.
