Emir of Zazzau Graces Second Day of National Horse Racing Festival in Zaria Kaduna State

The Emir of Zazzau, Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, on Thursday attended the second day of the National Horse Racing Festival taking place in Zaria, reaffirming the emirate’s commitment to preserving one of Northern Nigeria’s most cherished cultural traditions.
The event featured approximately eight thrilling horse-racing contests, drawing participants, traditional title holders, and spectators from different parts of the country. The races were dedicated to honoring the memories of distinguished personalities whose contributions left a lasting impact on the Zazzau Emirate and the wider society.
Among those commemorated were the late Shehu Kwasau Zazzau, the late Tsoho Abdullahi Zaria, the late Abdullahi Magajin Garin Nupe, the late Yahaya Isa, the late Baba Dan Bazariye, the late Baba Yaro Maude Sarkin Dawakin Zazzau, the late Aliyu Makaman Zazzau, and former Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, whose public service and contributions were recognized during the festival.
The gathering attracted a host of dignitaries, including traditional rulers, district heads, community leaders, and prominent guests, underscoring the significance of the annual event in promoting cultural heritage, unity, and community engagement.
Speaking through their presence and participation, attendees highlighted the enduring importance of horse racing as a symbol of Northern Nigeria’s rich history, courage, and traditional values.
The festival also serves as a platform for strengthening social ties and celebrating the legacy of individuals who have contributed to the growth and development of their communities.
The National Horse Racing Festival is being held at the historic Muhammad Aminu Square and is expected to continue until Saturday, with more competitive races and cultural activities scheduled to entertain participants and visitors alike.
