The Nigerian Army
on Saturday graduated 5,587 soldiers of the 90th Regular Recruit Intake at a colourful Passing Out Parade held at the Depot Nigerian Army, marking a significant boost to the nation's efforts to tackle security challenges across the country.
Addressing the newly inducted troops, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, charged them to be worthy ambassadors of the Nigerian Army by demonstrating discipline, integrity, loyalty and selfless service throughout their careers.
He urged the soldiers to remain committed to the defence of Nigeria's territorial integrity and to discharge their responsibilities with courage, dedication and professionalism.
The Army Chief stressed that the recruits had undergone rigorous military training, including Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations, which has equipped them with the skills and knowledge required to confront terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements threatening the nation's peace and stability.
According to him, the Nigerian Army remains determined to deny criminal groups any safe haven, but emphasized that all military operations must be conducted within the provisions of the Rules of Engagement and the Law of Armed Conflict, with due respect for human rights and the protection of innocent civilians.
General Shaibu noted that the expectations of Nigerians are high, urging the soldiers to uphold the core values of the military and remain steadfast in their loyalty to the Constitution and the nation.
He also cautioned them against the misuse of social media, warning that careless online activities, unauthorized disclosure of operational information and unprofessional conduct on digital platforms could jeopardize national security and undermine ongoing military operations.
The COAS further acknowledged the continued support of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, towards strengthening the operational capacity and combat readiness of the Armed Forces through improved welfare, training and equipment.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Army's commitment to protecting lives and property, General Shaibu expressed confidence that the newly graduated soldiers would contribute significantly to ongoing military operations aimed at restoring peace, stability and security in all parts of the country.
The Army Chief also extended his appreciation to security commanders and stakeholders in Zaria for their collaboration in maintaining peace within the area. He particularly commended the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, for his unwavering support to the military and other security agencies.
The ceremony attracted thousands of guests, including parents, relatives and well-wishers who gathered to witness the graduation of the recruits and celebrate their successful completion of military training.
The passing out of the 5,587 soldiers is expected to strengthen the manpower of the Nigerian Army as it intensifies efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats across the country.
