Tazkiyah University in Zaria, Kaduna State, has conducted the matriculation ceremony of its first 120 students this week, marking a significant milestone in women’s education in Nigeria and the wider Sub-Saharan region.
The event was attended by prominent guests from various sectors of education and society, including traditional rulers and heads of institutions from different parts of the country.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Sarkinfada, stated that the university is a unique institution dedicated exclusively to women’s education. He explained that their goal is to empower women by providing quality education in diverse fields such as science and technology, business, and the humanities.
He added that the university aims to break barriers and nurture future leaders who will bring meaningful change to society through deep knowledge and strong moral values.
He further emphasized that the institution seeks to become a center of excellence that produces highly skilled graduates capable of competing globally, thereby contributing to economic growth and societal development.
The university offers various programs including Health Sciences, Management Sciences, and Computer Science. Students will study courses such as nursing, public health, accounting, economics, computer science, cybersecurity, and more.
In his remarks, the founder of the university, Professor Ibrahim Ahmed Maqeri, expressed gratitude to God and to all those who contributed to the establishment of the institution. He noted that the achievement was made possible through unity and determination.
He congratulated the students on being part of the pioneer set and encouraged them to remain diligent and adhere to the institution’s rules and regulations.
The role played by the Emir of Zazzau in supporting the establishment of the university was also commended, with assurances of continued support for its growth.
The ceremony concluded successfully and peacefully, with students advised to remain law-abiding and uphold good conduct throughout their academic journey.
