The Hunkuyi Campus of Kaduna State College of Education (KSCOE), Gidan Waya, marked a significant milestone on April 9, 2026, as it formally matriculated over 160 students for the 2025/2026 academic session, with a strong call for discipline, academic excellence, and responsible conduct.
Delivering the keynote address, the Provost, Dr. Ayuba Akpa Aku—represented by the Deputy Provost, Dr. Ayuba Mamman—urged the newly admitted 100-level NCE Regular students to embrace the values of integrity, diligence, and focus as they begin their academic journey.
He described the matriculation ceremony as a defining moment that not only confers formal admission into the college but also binds students to its rules, ethics, and long-standing traditions. According to him, success in the institution would depend not only on intellectual ability but also on character and discipline.
Reflecting on the campus’s rapid growth, the Provost revealed that Hunkuyi Campus commenced with just 45 students, 30 staff members, and eight academic programmes. Today, it has grown to nearly 200 students, with an expanded curriculum that now includes Mathematics/Geography, Mathematics/Physics, Business Education, Physical and Health Education, Economics/Geography, and Arabic combinations.
“This growth is a clear indication of our commitment to widening access to quality teacher education and strengthening our academic base,” he said, while reaffirming plans to further expand programmes and admission capacity.
The Provost stressed the need for a peaceful and conducive learning environment, warning students against examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, indecent dressing, and other forms of misconduct. He cautioned that failure to meet academic or behavioural standards could lead to sanctions, including withdrawal from the college, noting that all programmes have stipulated completion timelines.
He encouraged the students to remain focused and take full advantage of the opportunities before them, urging them to work towards becoming worthy ambassadors and future members of the institution’s distinguished alumni network.
Dr. Aku also acknowledged the unwavering support of the Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani, whose investment in the Hunkuyi Campus, he said, has been instrumental in its development and rising profile.
In a goodwill message, the District Head of Hunkuyi, Alhaji Aminu Ashiru, who represented the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, described the establishment of the campus as a historic achievement that has brought educational opportunities closer to the people. He commended the government and stakeholders for their foresight and commitment.
Similarly, the Chairman of Kudan Local Government Council, Hon. Dauda Iliya Abba—represented by Senior Councillor Dr. Musa Sa’idu—praised the state government’s investment in education as a catalyst for social and economic development. He disclosed that the council had sponsored 100 students to study at the college, underscoring its commitment to human capital development.
