A new crisis has erupted in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State following an escalating internal conflict within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Indications show that the dispute, involving two to three factions within the party at the local government level, is intensifying, with each side allegedly attempting to sideline rivals in order to achieve its political ambitions.
The situation became more apparent during an event where the family of a former member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Late Hon. Annur, returned to the APC to contribute to the party’s activities.
At the gathering, Hon. Garba Datti Babawo strongly criticized the former Sabon Gari Local Government administration led by Hon. Engineer Ibrahim Usman, accusing it of corruption and the unlawful seizure of public property.
Among the allegations raised by Hon. Babawo was the sale of a public football field (Sabon Gari Stadium) widely used by the community, particularly youths, which he claimed was sold off by the previous administration. He stated that the current leadership would make every effort to reclaim the field for public use.
Hon. Babawo also condemned what he described as corrupt practices similar to those of former Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, stating that the people of Sabon Gari had experienced such behavior within their local government. He expressed hope that just as God exposed the former Attorney General, He would also expose all those who looted local government properties and transferred them to their wives and children.
He further revealed that reports had been received indicating that some party members were planning to defect to another political party. Consequently, he urged APC members to avoid actions that could lead to division within the party, as had happened in the past.
Our correspondent attempted to obtain a response from the former Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government regarding these allegations, but efforts proved unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that Hon. Babawo’s remarks were directed at a prominent political figure in the area who had previously refrained from responding to accusations. However, a source disclosed to journalists that this time around, everyone has prepared their defense, and the person being targeted is also ready to release his own “bombshells” in response in the near future.
