Bala Lau Warns INEC

By Idris Umar, Zaria

On Sunday, 15/2/26, the leader of Jama’atu Izalatul Bidi’a Wal iƙamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Abdullahi Bala‑Lau, criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for planning to hold the 2027 general elections during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Speaking to journalists in Zaria, Bala‑Lau said scheduling the election at a time when Muslims are engaged in religious observance is unfair. He argued that it could impose hardship on those who are fasting and make it difficult for them to fully exercise their civic rights.

He urged INEC to review the election timetable to ensure fairness and allow all citizens to vote without difficulty.

Beyond the election issue, the cleric also called on traders to reduce the prices of goods during Ramadan, emphasizing the importance of compassion and mutual support within society. He further appealed to wealthy individuals to assist the needy to ease the hardships of daily life, noting that helping others brings blessings and protects one’s wealth.
