Thousands of supporters and members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) attended a Town Hall Meeting held by the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Kaduna on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

The meeting was held at the Big City Event Centre, Kaduna, where people from different parts of the country gathered to listen to the candidates and ask questions directly on some of the major challenges facing Nigeria.

Upon their arrival, prominent guests at the event were introduced before Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiya movement, formally introduced Peter Obi to the gathering.
Both candidates expressed appreciation to the thousands of people who attended the meeting, including supporters who travelled from Kaduna, Kano and Abuja.

The organisers said the purpose of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for direct interaction between the candidates and members of the public, particularly on their proposed leadership agenda, campaign promises and the trust between elected leaders and the people.

Participants were given the opportunity to ask the candidates questions directly. Among those who asked questions was Alhaji Buba Galadima, alongside other members of the NDC.

One of the questions directed at Peter Obi concerned how his administration would address insecurity and threats allegedly faced by opposition political parties and their supporters during political gatherings, particularly following reports of attacks on vehicles belonging to opposition supporters in Kaduna.

Responding, Obi said they would explore appropriate measures to address insecurity while also promoting public awareness on the need for peace and responsible conduct during political activities.
The candidates were also asked about allegations that security agencies sometimes arrest young people over comments made on social media while those behind kidnapping and other serious crimes remain difficult to apprehend.
In his response, Peter Obi referred to Kwankwaso’s experience in security matters, saying that, if given the opportunity to lead the country, they would take appropriate measures to tackle insecurity.

Obi also linked youth unemployment to some of the security challenges facing the country, saying that creating jobs and expanding economic opportunities for young people would be among their priorities.

Another question focused on Nigeria’s electricity challenges, with participants asking the candidates what measures they would take to improve power supply across the country.

The candidates were also questioned about drug abuse among young people and how they intended to address the growing concern.

Responding, Peter Obi said that creating employment opportunities and developing industries would be among the measures that could help address some of the challenges confronting young Nigerians.

On the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Obi said they would review the agency’s operational system, stressing the importance of following due process and the rule of law rather than targeting individuals.

Among the prominent personalities who attended the meeting was Gawuna, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, as well as other political leaders and supporters from different parts of the country.

The meeting ended peacefully, with participants dispersing after the conclusion of the discussions.
